PILGRIM'S SENIOR ADVANTAGE

Pilgrim's Senior Advantage is a pelleted horse feed designed for the specific nutritional requirements of older horses.

Horses develop different nutritional requirements as they age. Pilgrim's Senior Advantage is designed for the older horse that will benefit from a feed specifically designed to help keep it looking, feeling and performing its best. Proper nutrition is the key factor in maintaining the health of an older horse. One of the problems with aging is that the horse's digestive system becomes less efficient being less able to absorb nutrients. In addition, the motility of the horse's digestive tract may be reduced due to the fact that the horse is becoming less active. Digestive concerns can still occur in older horses that remain active. Gas production and impactions can lead to colic symptoms.

The horse can more easily digest and process its feed by feeding smaller meals more frequently. Reducing the starch or grain content in the diet can help prevent digestive problems. Research has suggested that feeding high quality, easily digestible fiber sources may also help by allowing the older horse to more easily digest and process its feed. Senior Advantage contains soybean hulls as a source of highly digestible fiber. Added fat in the form of soybean oil also helps prevent colic since oil is almost totally digestible in the small intestine.

Older horses also require a higher amount and higher quality of protein due their reduced digestive system efficiency. Senior Advantage is a high quality, 14% protein feed with 0.7% lysine.

Older horses have a greater need for phosphorus than younger horses due their reduced efficiency of nutrient absorption. Senior Advantage contains 0.7% phosphorus.

Senior Advantage also contains optimal levels of trace minerals to meet the needs of older horses. Trace minerals play vital roles in body metabolism and maintain an active immune system, healthy tissues and overall animal health. Several of these trace minerals play key roles in energy and protein metabolism and are essential to optimize efficiency. Senior Advantage contains both inorganic and organic ("chelated") sources of trace minerals. Organic sources of cobalt, copper, manganese, and zinc are more bioavailable to the horse resulting in improved nutrient utilization.

Senior Advantage is highly fortified with optimal levels of vitamins including vitamins A, D, and E, as well as B complex vitamins. These vitamins play key roles in the maintenance of optimum heath, growth, and reproductive performance.

Senior Advantage also contains yeast culture to enhance the horse's ability to digest feed.
